Pilot Survey

Pilot Dance Survey

Can you help me with my dance survey.
Hope this works, it's my first ever survey.
I would like to hear what you think about it and what changes would you suggest to improve it.

  1. I enjoyed this, some great questions. I tried to answer them. Although dance isn't really my speciality. Think you need to look at question 5, it's a repeat...

  3. Hey Corinda
Gosh that took some serious thinking. I really enjoyed being challenged to provide comprehensive answers rather than merely tick box/yes or no responses.
I'm not sure how well i did in answering some of them but i did my best.
What was your objective for this survey? The reason i ask is that I feel you may get very broad information from it, and depending on your objective, may struggle at the other end to make sense of it all. Possibly by having some questions in there giving a couple of choices or a graded, 1-10, response could not only break it up but help in the usefulness of the gathered information. However as i said before these suggestions may, depending on what you hoped to get out of the survey, not be relevant or beneficial.

Hope all your work is going well and that you're making good head way.

If you have 4-5 mins I would greatly value your opinion (especially as one of the more experienced individuals on BAPP) on my pilot survey that i have Just finished.
    Stay safe - Phil

  4. Hi Phil
Thank you for taking part in my survey. There are no right or wrong answers but merely your own personal feelings, choices, observations and opinions.
This particular survey was my first attempt at setting one up and I will look at how my questions were answered so that in my next attempt, the line of questions will be improved.
I found that this 'monkey survey' offered ten free questions. I would want to ask at least fifteen.
The objective is to find out what people like best about their chosen dance class. Do they know what they like. Why do they like what they have chosen.
I’ve asked about Fusion to discover if people are aware of the origins of there chosen dance or even if they are at all interested in knowing.
I’m interested in knowing what other dance style they may wish to learn if they had a choice.
It looks as if I will obtain a broad range of answers, but that's because I could only offer ten questions. I will adapt the line of questions for teachers and other relevant groups.
I will consider, as you suggested, adding a couple of graded questions. I will also add an age range guide.

I have completed your survey. Hope it helps.
    I’ll speak to you soon.
    Best wishes.

  5. Done :-) Oh dear, Corinda I didn't know what dance fusion was but I tried my best. Sorry if it makes no sense. I found your survey actually quite emotional. I haven't really danced for 10 years now and as I was looking back, I actually had a tear in my eye. Is your topic related to the origin/history of dance? I think that is so interesting to see how it has developed.

Would you mind completing my survey too when you have a spare few mins?

I enjoyed your survey... Some good and solid questions..
Sorry my survey moved you that much.... Have you thought about attending a dance class to fulfill that creative need to express yourself. It sounds as if your spirit/soul needs to be nourished because you are giving of yourself so much most of the time..

I'm sure you are aware of dance fusion. It can be very subtly integrated for example some contemporary moves are being choreographed into ballet performances. On the opposite extreme, belly dance moves are being introduced into Salsa and vice versa, Capoeira and other martial arts moves and being included in choreographed dance works.. Plus much more.

    My topic is related to original/historical/cultural dance based on my original question;

‘Does the fusion of multiple dance styles have a negative effect on conservation of historical, cultural or original dance dance’

I’m thinking about narrowing it down to Middle Eastern Dance style in the UK and how it is perceived. Still work in progress but I’d like to include a little about other dance styles such as ballet, contemporary, etc.

    Best wishes.

  7. Corinda,
You're totally right about needing to nourish my spirit...unfortunately time and money don't really allow for me to fulfill my creative needs. I really get down about it these days, especially since being on this course and reading about others experiences.
It seems I was on the right lines regarding 'dance fusion' - I really like the idea but can also see how yes, it could have a negative effect on original dance styles. Do you think there will be a clear outcome to your inquiry? I imagine that all dance has developed through the merging of different cultures and styles in some way but I personally think it would be really sad if we lost, for example classical ballet (my favourite!)

  8. Hi

I really enjoyed doing your survey.
The questions made me realize how passionate I was about dance and how I actually understand why I think dance fusion is a natural progression.
I think I might be the only one who feels it's a positive thing. I think it's because I'm professional trained in many styles of dance and I love that I can go to different dance classes and enjoy them all. I love when dance is fused together because I can express myself with two styes or more at the same time.
But I do think it's important to have a understanding of the individual dance style ie technique, history and culture.
